PBIS in 3rd Grade
P= Protect Property
A= Act Respectfully
W= Work Hard
S= Show Self Control
We will be using PAWS tickets to reward students on a daily basis for turning in homework as well as any ways that we see them making an effort to really achieve success in any of the four areas. One half of these tickets can be turned in to the grade level "fish bowl" and every week tech club will draw one name from each grade level. That person will be recognized on the weekly vidcast on Friday mornings and will earn a book from the school.
The other half of the paws tickets can be kept and students can use them to purchase prizes from the school treasure box. Treasure box prizes start out at 10 tickets and students will have a chance every other Friday to purchase these prizes.

Meeker Dollars
Third grade has created their own virtual Meeker Dollars. Students can be given Meeker dollars for staying on green all day, turning in their homework, working collaboratively, reading the entire time during time in text, working hard on individual work in class, helping another student when needed, keeping their desk clean, and much more! When I see a student doing something that I feel they earn a Meeker Dollar for I will inform them that they have earned another dollar. With this system I will keep track on my computer and students will get to track their dollars earned at the end of the day. They will be keeping this up weekly as a "bank account."
Students will be able to purchase special prizes with these dollars that can be used during the school week. There will be a variety of options at different prices. With these prices, students will be expected to "spend" their money and subtract from what they have to guarantee that they have enough money to purchase what they want.
Some examples of purchases are:
- Bring a stuffed animal for a day $10
- Coloring Sheet $5
- Choose a book $50
- Pick the picture book of the day $20
- Sit with a friend $15
- Tell a joke or riddle $5
This system will help our third graders meet their Personal Financial Literacy Standards. Third graders are expected to be able to describe how to meet short term financial goals using mathematics to support their goal.
My favorite part of this system is that I can keep track of it online, and if you would like I can e-mail you daily your child's information. This site will keep track of what they were doing when they earned their dollar. As well as any time that I had to redirect them multiple times, I will always give one warning to a child before I track any redirection that I had to do. This is a great way for us to problem solve any classroom problems that we are having because we will be able to see all students behaviors at the same time.
